Beaches in Tasmania are wild and beautiful, treating swimmers to crystal clear blue water, huge stretches of remote coastline and stunning views. We’ve picked our top three favourite beaches in Tasmania that you should consider visiting this Summer!

Wineglass Bay

Not only is Wineglass Bay one of Tasmania’s most beautiful beaches, it’s also one of the most photographed spots on the island. The perfect combination of sparkling blue water and dazzling white sandy beach, framed against the grey and pink peaks of the Hazards make it a magnificent sheltered waterway. The short walk to the viewpoint is one of the highlights, giving you sweeping views of the bay and offering an ideal vantage point for watching the abundant birdlife in the area.

See it for yourself: Freycinet Circuit Walk – four day walking adventure exploring Freycinet’s spectacular coastline. Cycle, Kayak and Walk Tasmania – six day multi-activity adventure exploring Freycinet, Maria Island and the east coast by foot, bike and kayak Freycinet Experience Walk – four day blissful immersion in nature combining coastal and mountain walking- carrying no more than a light day-pack, return each evening to the secluded Friendly Beaches Lodge to enjoy splendid meals, local wine and a comfortable bed.

Bruny Island’s Long Neck

The Neck on Bruny Island is one of the most recognizable sand dune views in Tasmania. This long slither of land connects Bruny Island’s north and south, and a short stroll to the lookout gives you a 360 view of the island that is simply superb. This spectacular habitat for native wildlife allows you to observe Fairy Penguins from the viewing platform, as well as abundant birdlife, quolls, padmelons and eagles. If you’re lucky, you may even spot albatross, dolphins, whales and sea birds!

See it for yourself: Bruny Island Gourmet Hike and Bike five day adventure that explores Bruny Island, including the Fluted Cape Walk, before heading back to the mainland for some active cycling through southern Tasmanian highlights. Bruny Island Long Weekend – three day adventure that includes visits to the islands lesser known gems including local oyster farms and gourmet farmers, finishing off with a fantastic wildlife cruise.

Bay of Fires

Tucked away on Tasmania’s north-east coast, the Bay of Fires is a series of white sandy beaches, framed with orange lichen-covered boulders. Brimming with aquatic life, the area is a fantastic destination to go beach combing and swimming, where you can spot sponges, weedy sea dragons, rock lobsters, abalone and more. This conservation area also has a number of birds, including yellow-tailed black cockatoos, wattlebirds and honeyeaters, while seabirds seen in the area include magnificent white-breasted sea eagles, Pacific gulls, gannets, petrels and albatross.

See it for yourself: Bay of Fires Lodge Walk – four day idyllic short escape where you can discover pristine wilderness, mouth-watering local foods and tranquil accommodation in the beautiful Bay Of Fires

Remote and secluded beaches along the South Coast Track

While the remote beaches along the South Coast Track may not be the most beautiful, they are some of the most secluded and private beaches you can find. So if your idea of the ultimate beach getaway is to visit beaches that are so remote, few have stepped foot on the before you, perhaps you need to venture to the beaches along the South Coast of Tasmania, along the South Coast Track. These remote and sandy beaches, including Little Deadman’s Beach, Osmiridium Beach and Granite Beach, will make you feel as though you are on a small secluded island in the middle of nowhere. There’s beauty in that, right?

See it for yourself: South Coast Track – This nine day challenging trek along the Tasmania’s South Coast is one of the island’s finest long distance walks.
