About

About Australian Walking Holidays

Our guides were incredible. Earle, Drew and Jai are young, enthusiastic men but showed a great maturity in their abilities of being not only guides but cooks, cleaners, packers, organisers, mentors, nurses, drivers and anything else we needed. Nothing was too much trouble and they showed incredible patience with all 16 of us.
All of us came away from the trip somewhat changed. This country and the way we experienced it will do that to you. There’s a spiritual aspect that I believe you can only really feel until you’re out there, allowing the country to challenge you, take you out of your comfort zone and then bring you that something special in return. Reminiscing later, it actually brought a few of us to tears.
Definitely a trip of a lifetime.

History

Australian Walking Holidays was created by one of the world’s most experienced trekking and adventure operators, World Expeditions. With a portfolio of over 26 mainland and 25 Tasmanian itineraries, our exclusive itineraries are based on over 40 years experience in creating trekking holidays in Australia and around the world.

Our itineraries offer an unbeatable experience of Australia’s greatest wilderness destinations in the most appropriate style for that environment. Because we are committed to wilderness travel, we also offer a couple of itineraries that involve alternative means of getting about, like white water rafting, sea kayaking and camel-supported trips.

Our groups are small (between 8 to 16 people) so as to minimise impact and maximise experience of the wilderness. Our leaders are some of the most experienced in the field and they delight in sharing their local knowledge and insights with the group.

Philosophy: We believe travel is about embracing the nature, culture and people of each destination, which is why we strive to create unique and innovative adventures that give travellers an immersive experience in a destination, with minimal impact to the environment.

We believe travelling is more than just sight-seeing and advocate for “slow tourism” – taking time to absorb, enjoy and savour the experience.

Product Mission: We are committed to providing travellers with sustainable, high quality active experience in the remote locations of Australia, utilising the most experienced local guides and best possible equipment.

Environmental mission: We promote the need for the conservation of our National Parks by encouraging people to re-evaluate their individual impacts upon the earth. Australian Walking Holidays is a certified ecotourism product by Ecotourism.org.au, as our trips operate in wilderness areas and focus on optimal resources use, leave minimal impact on the environment and offer interesting ways to learn about the environment.

Excellence in tourism: We acknowledge and appreciate the pivotal role our office staff and guides have on the client experience and ensure all employees have excellent communication interpretive and interpersonal skills, are very customer focused and can deliver a high standard of service. We ensure this by setting the following goals and strategies:

Social Mission: To operate the company in a way that actively maintains destination’s natural character and cultural diversity for future generations. To continually engage in partnerships with local environmental groups and/or land managers to actively campaign for conservation or promote environmental protection and/or rehabilitation.
